Frequently Asked Questions

What is your deposit and cancellation policy?

We are currently asking for a $1,000 deposit per person at the time of booking.

We will let you know the exact terms and conditions at the time at the time you book and, of course, honour those terms.

Should I buy trip cancellation insurance?

Yes. We strongly advise you take out trip cancellation insurance.

Are there any limitations on guests wishing to stay at the lodge?

The experience that we offer is a wilderness one. We don’t recommend our holidays for guests who will struggle on uneven terrain or who have mobility problems.

We do not usually book guests under the age of 14 or over the age of 80.

Some of our activities are on river rafts and we will ask you to sit out the trip if you weigh more than 120 kgs (260 lbs/18.5 stone). These limitations are for your safety.

We are not set up to cater for photographers using tripods.

Because we are off the power grid, we do not offer laundry services.

We have satellite internet for guests to use.

What if I have food allergies or am a vegetarian?

We can usually cater for guests with allergies and vegetarians. We would, however, ask for some warning.

Will I have to sign a waiver to stay at the lodge?

Yes, all guests will have to sign a legal waiver accepting risks inherent in the wilderness. We are happy to provide an advance copy of this on request.

Are the wild animals around the lodge dangerous?

There is always some risk associated with large wild animals. Your guides will brief you on how to react should you encounter a bear and will also carry bear-deterrent. Your guides are all fully-trained.

How long will it take me to get to the lodge?

Around six hours from Banff, eight or nine hours from Calgary, nine or 10 hours from Vancouver and 11-12 hours from Seattle.

We will send you full details when you book.

Who will the other guests at the lodge be?

We have had guests from different corners of the world but most are from Great Britain, the US, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

What is the weather usually like?

We typically have hot summers and sunny autumns. There are always rainy and cloudy days however.

Can you guarantee that we will see bears?

No. So far more than 95 percent of our guests who have come during autumn bear season have seen grizzly bears and almost all our guests who have come in May have seen a bear, but with nature there can never be any guarantees. We do not offer refunds if you do not see bears.

Do I need to rent a 4×4?

No. You don’t need a 4×4 during any of the seasons that we are open to guests.
