Spring (May-June)
Bear-Viewing Summer (July-Sept) Best of the Wilderness Guided Alpine Hiking Customised Holiday Autumn (Sept-Oct) Grizzly-Viewing
|
Spectacular hiking in the Rocky Mountain alpine
These holidays are designed for those who like to stretch their legs in the wilderness but prefer to return to a luxury cabin, a hot shower and good food at the end of each day. Mountain vistas and alpine wildflowersThe scale and magnificence of the mountains that surround our ranch is remarkable.Remote, imperious, cruel and dazzling, they are every bit as spectacular as the Rockies in Banff or Jasper, and without the crowds. For our hikes, we use one of our off-road vehicles for the ascent into the alpine. During July the snow finally melts up high, except in a few shaded areas, and wildflowers - Indian paintbrush, wild lupins and many others - blanket the meadows. At this time it is also possible to see lonely high-elevation bears. All our hiking guides are local and know the area around the ranch well. They are also trained bear guides.
Summer itinerary
After breakfast we head up into the high country. This is an unforgettable
experience, redolent of the times before the settlers arrived in the
new world. Lunch is a picnic of home-made sandwiches, fruit and biscuits that we take along on our day tour. We especially like to hike high-mountain ridges and alpine meadows off the beaten track.Dinner may be a sit-down affair in the main house or a barbeque by the river.
